Ethics of co-production in the documentary industry

Think tank session titled "Ethics of Co-Production in the Documentary Industry", open to producers, filmmakers and industry representatives in collaboration with Video Consortium.

BIPOC EURODOC is a global task force dedicated to reshaping the documentary filmmaking landscape by amplifying voices from the Global South and justice-seeking BIPOC communities.

The group consists of current participants and alumni from EURODOC’s annual and local programs, offering curated on-site and online sessions that foster collaboration and mentorship.

As part of its 2025 activities, the task force is preparing a report on the ethics of co-production in the documentary industry. Taking advantage of its presence at film festivals and industry events, the group organizes think tank sessions open to all, with prior registration.

 

Think Tank Session Overview

This 1h30 session will provide a structured space for the delegation and the participants to:

  • Exchange feedback on their co-production experiences
  • Reflect on key challenges and ethical considerations 
  • Develop recommendations to include in the upcoming report

Ghislaine Choupas-Loobuyck
(Ayato Productions)

Ghislaine is a producer and founder of Ayato Productions. She worked as a lawyer and as internal lawyer in business law before joining the audiovisual sector ten years ago. She joined the French Parliament channel (LCP-AN), then the National Institute of Audiovisual (INA), and finally the international festival Séries Mania in 2020 for two years. She is also Director of a professional association of young and independent producers (Fédération des Jeunes Producteurs Indépendants) since 2016 and co-founder of the association Médiaclub’Elles

Leonard Cortana
Inclusion Program and Strategic Partnerships Manager (EURODOC)

Leonard Cortana (France/Guadeloupe) is the Inclusion Program and Strategic Partnerships Manager at EURODOC, coordinating the BIPOC EURODOC taskforce. A PhD candidate in Cinema Studies focusing on the transnational circulation of social justice films at NYU. Leonard directed the short documentary Marielle's Legacy Will Not Die (2019) & contributed to social impact campaigns for films like Murder in Paris (South Africa) and Sementes (Brazil). He has served as a consultant for the UN’s Anti-Racial Discrimination Section and organized discussions for advocacy films globally. Leonard organized post-screening discussions and participated in various social impact campaigns worldwide for advocacy films. He led a session at the 2024 Cannes Doc Edition on Post-Screening Q&As:Leading Ethical Interactions to Boost Impactful Conversations.

Dhia JERBI
Creative Documentary France&Tunisia (Muja Films)

Dhia Jerbi is a Tunisian producer and director. After completing his filmmaking studies at ISAMM Tunis, he honed his skills in creative documentary filmmaking at the Lussas Documentary School in 2018. There, he directed "Au pays des oranges tristes", which premiered at the États Généraux du Film Documentaire festival. It made its mark and garnered numerous awards at over thirty festivals across Europe and Africa. "Behind the Sun", his debut feature-length documentary, premiered at Visions du Réel in 2024. Convinced of the necessity of an equitable partnership between the two shores of the Mediterranean, he co-founded Muja Films with Manon Lavaud in 2022.
