In January 2017, a video goes viral on social media. In it, 22-year-old Pateh Sabally drowns in Venice’s Canal Grande, while people on the bank jeer loudly at him. 4000 kilometres away in his homeland of Ghana, his mother, father and brother are left behind. Their stories gently reconstruct a life that was cut way too short. Emily Schuster-Woldan
